The term is generally used to refer to the original house music DJs and producers from the area, such as Ron Hardy and Phuture. Here are some of the experiences of the people who were there at the beginning, who helped to create house music, in their own words. Such was the lot of Black America, Wilson argued in this work set during the tumultuous transition from South to North and property to personhood. The characters in this play, set in the 1910s in a Pittsburgh boarding house run by the nervous Seth Holly (the warm-centered Dexter Zollicoffer) are constantly on the move, searching for someone, escaping from someone, likely both at once. And this being America, a cottage industry already has sprung up in the business of people finding, even though the people finders, such as Rutherford Selig (Gary Houston), also may double as the people losers. Selig is one of the very few white characters in Wilson’s plays and, as Houston well understands, his role here is to at first make you wonder if that’s really true.
The Birth of Chicago House Music
Released in 1998, the 'Another Side'album collated many of this trio's outstanding singles. On some tracks, producer Larry Heard introduced a mood and musicality that set the template fordeep house, on others he explored more jazzy and soulful directions. But,'Music Take Me Up' and 1986 single 'Bring Down The Walls' were stark and brutalChicago house. Reissued on Trax under lead vocalist Robert Owens's name, suchwas its naïve power that you could almost believe it held the wrecking-ballpotential its title suggested. The walls it referred to were described to thiswriter by Owens as “the blocks of negativity and separation in society, mainlythe ones found in the urban environment in which it was written” , a messagewhich chimed with high-as-a-kite but idealistic UK audiences. But, stripped of these two perennially vital offspring there lies the backbone of the Chicago house sound, steeped in the songs and soul of Curtis Mayfield, drenched in the disco and funk of Rufus and Chaka Khan and hardened by imports often as industrial as the surroundings in which they were aired.

I don't want it for me, I don't want it for anyone I love. I want people to be blessed, and we all make our choices," she said.
In 1998, Kathie and her husband bought a small vintage home in the downtown area of Nantucket. It had a small driveway but sat very close to the sidewalk, as most of the older homes in the area do. However, they sold the home after a short while because it did not offer the pair the privacy they desired.

Today, the pioneer spirit of Fruita can be experienced by exploring the Fruita rural cultural landscape and by visiting the Gifford Homestead. The Giffords raised dairy cows, hogs, and sheep, as well as chickens and ducks. They used the smokehouse to preserve meat for their own use and for sale. Dewey Gifford also worked for the State Road Department and later for the National Park Service, to supplement his farm income. The Capitol Reef Natural History Association, in cooperation with the National Park Service, has renovated and refurnished the Gifford farmhouse as a cultural demonstration site to interpret the early Mormon settlement of the Fruita valley.
The rates are going to have to be higher than they were, he said. “The numbers are kind of scary, and every space in here has to be open and doing well” for the business to succeed. Azar said he had tried to buy a couple of other properties in town, but each time the deals had fallen apart at the last minute.
The home is perfectly picturesque, with huge glass doors with wrought iron accents which welcome you into the magnificent home. As you walk into the entranceway, you are greeted with beautiful foliage, water features, and marvelous decoration. There’s a gym, kitchen, 2 formal dining areas, family room, great room and an elevator which has access to all three floors of the home. Club Purgatory, the basement nightclub that hosts several gay parties per week in the summer and formerly hosted experimental theater in the 1960s, should be open by the end of May, Azar said. Azar sees running the Gifford more as a lifestyle than a job. As he’s making improvements, he’s also thinking of ways to reach more people — he defines queer as a state of mind that can apply to both the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.
In 1997, Kathie Lee Gifford’s husband, Frank Gifford, had an affair with a former flight attendant — and it was exposed for the world to see by a tabloid. That very public event was a major crisis 11 years into their marriage, but her unusual approach in the aftermath made the rest of their years together happy and healthy. While partially finished, the attic has ample natural light andheadroom. Most adults could move comfortably throughout most of theattic.

At the time of the affair, the NFL Hall-of-Famer and Kathie Lee's children, Cassidy and Cody, were very young – their daughter was four and their son was seven. The timing of the scandal was "very painful" for her, but she learned to "practice forgiveness" prior to marrying Frank in 1986. 2) The ANNEX is our most historic and is located above the Porch Bar and accessed up the main Porch entrance on Carver Street and traveling Right passed the Porch Bar and left into our side yard. Provincetown’s Gifford House was on life support. Now the historic inn is making a queer comeback.
Graf won anyway, helped by a split in the Republican moderate vote between two candidates. The former “Live with Regis and Kathie Lee” co-host didn’t want to live in a “toxic” environment in her marriage with Frank. He knew that I would never again be exactly the same as I was before I knew the truth of what he had done,” she explained. Ultimately, the TV personality forgave Frank and they were married until his death in 2015 at age 84.

With the sale complete he was looking for a new project and made an offer to Foss and Wilson on a whim. And now the yellow beacon of Carver Street, and not only her legacy, but future is in his hands as he takes the reins to welcome thousands of visitors as the summer season approaches. As the latest proprietor of the Gifford’s century-and-a-half history, Azar now views himself as part of a small wave of corporate expats who have recently moved to Provincetown to find a better quality of life and build their own businesses. He says they’re also trying to protect a place they love from becoming overrun by soulless developers who see dollar signs in P’town tourism, but don’t recognize the place’s important legacy of artistic queer community. While blooming flowers, breaching whales, and singing birds are all familiar signs of spring in Provincetown, but so too are the sounds of buzz saws and hammers, saw dust in the air, and the smell of fresh paint.

Come the 1960s the Gifford House embraced the cutting edge when it was home to Beverly Bentley’s Act IV experimental theater company. Come the 1970s the transformation to a queer space would be rapid with the opening of Back Street in the former performance space of Act IV, now better known as Club Purgatory. It took some finagling and convincing, plus $6 million, for Azar to purchase the place. When word got out that Foss was considering selling, others jumped into the fray.
She had just begun her third term in January 2011 when she was shot in the head in an assassination attempt and mass shooting just outside of Tucson during an event with constituents. Giffords has since recovered much of her ability to walk, speak, read, and write. She was greeted by a standing ovation upon her return to the House floor in August 2011. Guests can also request tarot readings from an on-site intuitive, and Azar hopes the Gifford’s programming could eventually grow to include winter workshops on any number of topics to keep P’town’s economy stimulated in the off-season. Last year, Azar sold the Stowaway Inn to comedian Kristen Becker’s nonprofit Summer of Sass to serve as an organizational headquarters and provide housing for marginalized LGBTQ+ youth.
Such is the case at the top of Carver Street as the iconic Gifford House undergoes a renovation of structure and a revival of its spirit. At the end of March, the historic hotel changed hands when Steven Azar bought the Gifford House from Jim Foss and Harvey Wilson, who had owned it for almost 30 years. As he settles onto a bar stool with a smile and sigh Azar shakes some saw dust from his hair and scratches at a bit of paint on his right hand. By choosing to stay at a locally-owned inn like Gifford House, you are directly supporting individuals who have poured their hearts and souls into creating spaces that reflect the rich tapestry and history of our community. The Gifford House is imbued with a unique charm, personality, and intimate atmosphere that is just not found in other hotels.
A few of these time-worn properties, such as the Carpe Diem Guest House & Spa (now the Ellery), have been transformed from humble hotels into chic, family-friendly, boutique hostelries. Regardless of Foss’s resolve to stay independent, the Gifford seemed headed toward the same fate. Over the years, it has entertained American presidents (Grant, Roosevelt and Howard, to be specific), hosted theater companies (a young Al Pacino performed here), and been a vibrant hub of gay life. With so many high-spirited memories attached to the place, it’s no wonder that, if the many whispered ghost stories are to be believed, a handful of revelers have never left the Gifford House at all. In 2022 he sold the inn to the Summer of Sass, the non-profit program founded by comedian and Jill-of-all-creative-trades Kristen Becker that houses young LGBTQ adults from oppressive parts of the United States to start anew in Provincetown.
Provincetown has long been recognized as a haven for the LGBTQ+ community, offering a safe and welcoming space where people can express their authentic selves without fear of judgment or discrimination. This acceptance and sense of belonging are deeply rooted in the local establishments that have been nurtured and built by members of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies here. The former Today host, 70, reflected on how she forgave Frank for his infidelity while speaking to Entertainment Tonight in an interview released on Wednesday, April 24. Before Frank’s death in 2015, he had a highly publicized affair with Suzen Johnson, a former flight attendant. Kathie Lee Gifford is offering candid insight into the affair that rocked her marriage to late husband Frank Gifford.
He’s constantly thinking of activities and entertainment that appeal to both the community and day-trippers. Chunky cathode-ray tube televisions sat on outdated furniture. The water-stained drop ceiling tiles, along with old mattresses that had endured decades of summer trysts, were evidence that the Gifford was nearing the end of an era. In addition to its guest rooms, the Gifford House’s three bars, long an essential part of Provincetown’s social ecosystem, had collapsed into a decaying and moribund state. Located in Provincetown, a 4-minute walk from Ryder Street Beach, Gifford House has accommodations with a garden, private parking, a shared lounge and a terrace. Among the facilities at this property are room service and an ATM, along with free WiFi throughout the property.
The families were good friends and helpers to each other, an important relationship in a small isolated community like Fruita. Water was carried to the house from the Fremont River and was used untreated. A two-hole outhouse served the family until an indoor bathroom and plumbing was installed in later years.
The Gifford Homestead is located 1 mile (1.6 km) south of the visitor center on the Scenic Drive. The Gifford House is typically open from March 14 (Pi Day) to late November (closing dates and operating hours may vary). Parking for oversized vehicles is available at the picnic area. The former kitchen (a non-historic addition to the original house) has been converted into a Natural History Association sales outlet.
But, as Foss told the Provincetown Independent, he wanted to “keep the gay and lesbian and etcetera folk here.” On April 1, Azar became the new steward of the inn, maintaining a century-and-a-half tradition of independent ownership. Gifford House has been “family”-owned in all senses for generations. Lately, just within the last few years, corporate ownership has begun buying up many of the businesses we know and love in town, the businesses that made this place unique because of their personal touches and direct touch points to community. To this day, she says, she views everything "as a choice," including forgiving her late husband's affair with a former flight attendant named Suzen Johnson. "I could have let the seed germinate but I don't want to be that person, that bitter, angry, unhappy, miserable human being 'cause you know what you end up doing? You end up making everybody around you every bit as miserable," Kathie Lee told the outlet. "I have always felt from my earliest youth that I had the choice every day of my life to be a blessing or a burden, and I want to be a blessing."
TheHamiltons re-plumbed the house with sound-deadening cast ironpiping. Another personal lavatory is located in a third bedroom acrossthe hall. This lavatory is heart-shaped and opened to the bedroom. These lavatories were a regular feature in Corlett-built homes. The iconic pink doors of the Gifford House lead to the foyer, which is open to the second floor. Anaglypta wallpaper rising threeto four feet decorates part of the foyer and stairwell. The solidcherry staircase with sawtooth and sunburst details also featuresbrass triangles at each corner of the stairs , preventing dust anddebris from accumulating in those corners.
In contrast, the inventory of homes in the middle-third of the market fell 2.9% in the January-March period from a year earlier. Home prices are growing more unaffordable for the average American, in part because inventory has been low. One reason for the diverging sales data is that wealthy home shoppers are more likely to have the financial flexibility to bypass financing hurdles by paying in cash. The trend is helping accelerate the growth in home sale prices among the most high-end homes at a faster clip than less expensive properties. Though now Colorado’s most expensive home, the property also represents the first nine-figure deal in the state.

There were 33 restrooms, three bomb shelters, and a nine-hole golf course on the premises. A decade later, he converted it into a private club (membership fee is $200,000) with 128 rooms, a spa, a ballroom, tennis courts, and a beach club. Imagine your perfect home, quadruple its size, add upscale aesthetic details, a massive pool or two, a 10-car garage, even a helipad, and you still probably won’t make it to this top 30 list. Is it simply a craving for the high life, or do they just have too much money? Another French residence, Château Louis XIV, is currently believed to be the most expensive house in the world.

Yes, our 10 picks heavily favor the U.S. (specifically, California), but it’s for good reason. Michael Valdes, the president of eXp Global, which has a strong global presence, says that the largest concentration of high-end homes happens to be Stateside. “There are other expensive areas around the world, such as Monaco, where you will see listings in the high eight figures and above, but their market and inventory is small compared with the United States,” he says. After Edmond's death, the home was passed onto his grandson, who then sold it to the King of Morocco in the 1980s. It’s important to mention that the most reliable source of this information mentions the sale of all 800 cigars for a total of $507,000, which would put the price/stick at $633. Many of them are limited edition lines and are likely harder to find than most cigars. The Clase Azul Puebla limited edition tequila was released on the 5th of May 2021, to commemorate Cinco de Mayo, or the Battle of Puebla. For the limited edition variant, only 420 bottles were produced, a number that jokingly references a time when Musk said he was going to take Tesla private at $420 a share. Although this tequila usually costs $2,800, you can sometimes get lucky and find it on sale for $1,499, which is honestly a great price, all things considered.

Valued between $1 and $2 billion, the residential home is second only to London's Buckingham Place in price. We all know who owns Buckingham Palace, but does anyone recognize the name Tim Blixseth? Or know the Indian billionaire who built a 27-story apartment building just for himself?

We decided to separate the El Gigante from our main list of expensive cigars, but the story itself is worth mentioning. The Ideales Coleccion 2021 is limited to just 3000 boxes of 20 cigars, totaling 60,000 sticks. As the name suggests, the cigar was indeed a limited edition, and difficult to get a hold of. We’ve decided to thoroughly calculate the price/stick for each of the entries on this list, so you can have a clearer understanding of exactly which cigars are the most expensive in the world.
